What to look for
- Usage: kilowatt-hours (kWh) for electricity, therms or CCF for gas
- Rate: what you pay per unit, sometimes in tiers or by time of day
- Fixed charges: the monthly amount you pay no matter what
- Comparison: many bills compare this month with last year
Time-of-use plans
If your rate changes by time of day, running the dishwasher and laundry outside peak hours can lower your bill.
